What is Psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy, also known as talk therapy or counseling, is an open, honest and collaborative process between you and a therapist. Your therapist will encourage you to speak about what's on your mind, and then work with you to find a variety of coping strategies that build resilience around the issues you are facing. The goals of psychotherapy are different for everyone - an important part of the process will be to focus on identifying what's important to you. Psychotherapy can be short or long term, and a therapist may combine elements from different therapeutic approaches to best meet your needs.
Living in metropolitan NY and NJ areas has its own unique set of challenges. Busy schedules and a fast-paced lifestyle can lead to high levels of stress and leave little time for self-care. Even under ordinary circumstances life in New York can be challenging. If you are experiencing feelings of anxiety, isolation, depression or grief- or are struggling with unresolved trauma PTSD or substance use you are not alone.
A NYC psychotherapist can help empower you to find ways to cope with the issues you may be struggling with so that you can feel better about yourself and your life. Common issues addressed in therapy include sadness, loss, trauma, depression, grief, relationship or family problems, anxiety, fear, doubt, anger, addiction and recovery, concerns about work, career, and ambition, and issues related to sex, sexuality, and gender and identity.
